Causes I Support
I firmly believe in a global community, and helping wherever and whenever I can to improve the quality life of others, both at home and abroad, including our environment. I support many projects, including through my membership of Soroptimist International, a global volunteer organisation advocating for human rights and gender equality www.soroptimistinternational.org
These 3 are particularly dear to my heart:
Nakuru Hope’s: Gabriel Learning Centre & Orphanage provides hope where there was none to destitute and abandoned children in Kaptembwa slum, Nakuru, Kenya. The founder, Susan Saleeba, is an inspirational personal friend I met trekking in Nepal in 1999. All administrative time and costs are by volunteers. I know 100% of donations raised go to Gabriel’s. I regularly travel to Kenya to volunteer, and we sponsor Winnie, Robert and Jane who live in the orphanage. www.NakuruHope.org
Nepal Australia Friendship Association (NAFA): Since 1989, grassroots education, medical, basic infrastructure (clean water) and natural disaster relief in Nepal. I’ve been a member since 1996, trekking in Nepal 3 times, seeing projects first hand. I’ve sponsored Suman’s education since 2004. He started university in 2017, and yes, I’m very proud of him! www.nafa.org.au
Bush Heritage Australia: Protecting land and wildlife since 1991. I donated to purchase the first few hundred hectares in 1991, and now 6 million hectares across Australia have been protected, regenerated and cared for, protecting our biodiversity and habitat for countless endangered species of fauna and flora. www.bushheritage.org.au
